**Texas also scored the highest marbling score steer of 7 (2 above any other animal in the competition) only on 100 days feed!!!

Last year, we decided to test our breeding program after so many years of saying how well our cattle perform for weight for age as well as meeting market specifications on the hooks.  It was gamble as Texas Angus had never in its history entered a feedlot/carcase competition. Our stud's reputation was on the line, as our purebred Angus steers were competing not only against other Angus but other purebred breeds and more importantly crossbreds from other leading commercial and seedstock operations of NSW and QLD
The steers entered were the bottom selection of their bull contemporary group and with the guided selection from Ben Hiscox, BJA, 2 pens of 100 day export steers and one pen of 70 Day domestic steers were entered.  When the feedlot trial results were announced we were  were elated with winning the 100 Day Export Daily Weight Gain and placing 2nd in the Domestic Daily Weight Gain against a cohort of 120 and 330 steers and heifers, respectively. We couldn't be happier to
beat crossbreds for DWG that had the added advantage of hybrid vigour but when the carcase results were announced we were a little shell shocked at the success we achieved!

New Record Set at the 2015 Bull Sale

A lovely sunny winter’s day brought one of Texas Angus's largest crowd to witness the stud’s record breaking sale.  The stud and commercial demand at this year’s sale hadn't been seen for a number of years and is a definite reflection of the strong cattle market and demand for quality bulls with weight for age, fleshing, softness and calving ease. The exceptional line up of 107 bulls with an average weight of 820kgs were fiercely contested on July 30th that saw a top price record of $45,000 and a total clearance with a very healthy average of $7,229.

In the lead up to the sale, the interest in Lot 4 Texas Mount K2 had never been experienced by the stud before.  Mount K2's near perfect data set with his impeccable structure, desirable phenotype and outstanding temperament created an explosion of attention from all over Australia and internationally and when he stepped into the ring there was no disappointment.  A hotly contested bidding war ended with Mount K2 being knocked down for $45,000 to a syndicate of studs including Welcome Swallow and Sandon Glenoch Angus with Texas retaining a 1/4 share.

The Royal Sydney Beef Challenge winning pen for the highest daily weight gain in the 100 Day Export Feedlot Trial - 6 Pure Texas Angus Steers

We are thrilled with the results of the 2015 Royal Sydney Beef Challenge where 6 purebred Texas Angus steers placed 1st for the highest daily weight gain in the 100 day Export feed trial from a cohort of 120 steers and heifers of all breeds and crosses.  We were also extremely pleased when another pen of 6 placed 2nd for daily weight gain for the 70 day Domestic feed trial which had a massive 330 steers and heifers in the group. These purebred were competing against cross bred cattle that had the added advantage of hybrid vigour.  This was history making for the stud as it was the first time it has ever entered cattle in a feedlot trial and are looking forward to seeing how these steers progress in the carcase section of the competition. On visual appraisal the export pen was placed 4th overall and the stud received a 3rd placing for the best single domestic animal.

This was a great endorsement of the Angus Breed and the Texas Angus Breeding Program and a valuable way of comparing the Texas cattle to other leading commercial and seedstock operations of southern QLD and Northern NSW.
