TEXAS ANGUS TAKES OUT 2015 HIGHEST WEIGHT GAIN PEN AT ROYAL SYDNEY BEEF CHALLENGE
The Royal Sydney Beef Challenge winning pen for the highest daily weight gain in the 100 Day Export Feedlot Trial - 6 Pure Texas Angus Steers
We are thrilled with the results of the 2015 Royal Sydney Beef Challenge where 6 purebred Texas Angus steers placed 1st for the highest daily weight gain in the 100 day Export feed trial from a cohort of 120 steers and heifers of all breeds and crosses. We were also extremely pleased when another pen of 6 placed 2nd for daily weight gain for the 70 day Domestic feed trial which had a massive 330 steers and heifers in the group. These purebred were competing against cross bred cattle that had the added advantage of hybrid vigour. This was history making for the stud as it was the first time it has ever entered cattle in a feedlot trial and are looking forward to seeing how these steers progress in the carcase section of the competition. On visual appraisal the export pen was placed 4th overall and the stud received a 3rd placing for the best single domestic animal.
This was a great endorsement of the Angus Breed and the Texas Angus Breeding Program and a valuable way of comparing the Texas cattle to other leading commercial and seedstock operations of southern QLD and Northern NSW.

Despite the wet weather and 40mms of rain around 60 people came from Armidale, Dalby, St George, Goondiwindi and the local region to attend our Soils, Beef and Bull Day. It was a very informative day with Soils Ecologists David Hardwick explaining and literally showing the importance of healthy soils and Whyalla Feedlots National Buyer Greg Krarup explaining the importance of feedlot compliance, genetics and markets. Thank you Northern Slopes Landcare and Rocky Creek Red Cross it was an excellent day.

Texas Angus was established 79 years ago in Texas, Queensland. The stud is highly recognised for its integrity and commitment of producing quality Angus genetics for Australia, particularly for the north.
The stud produces 200 sound problem free bulls bred with cutting edge technology focusing on growth, carcase, fertility, temperament and longevity. 100 bulls are sold at auction with the rest selling privately through contract and or paddock sales. All females and males are run under large contemporary groups to extract the most accurate information and to shell out any poor performers.
The stud is a family run operation with limited outside help. It’s a no frills operation, with all marketing done in house. The Texas cattle speak for themselves. We invite you to come and have a look at our program anytime as we love showing people our cattle and having a chat!
7 month old calf born last year weaned and weighed a hefty 320kgs
Texas Angus achieved a great sale despite the ongoing drought and depressed cattle market conditions at the time of sale. The stud sold 84 bulls for an average of $4064, topping at $14,000. It was the first year for Bangadang Western Express E10 sons to sell and they were hotly contested with Lot 11 Texas Western Express H639 making the top dollar. Colin Flanagan of Granite Ridge Angus traveled across from South Australia to secure H639 and also picked up the heaviest bull of the sale, Texas Western Force H606 for $8,500. He was impressive with the bulls’ weight for age, growth, temperament and size. H639 was 954kgs with an ebv spread of +5 for BW to +127 600 days +7.5 EMA, +1.2 RBY and positive calving ease.
The dam of these sons, Texas Undine Z183 has been the studs leading donor and has sold up to date 12 sons for an average of $12,000 which indicates how influential this female is breeding in the Texas herd. The full brother to H639, Lot 4 Texas Western Express H126 was secure by Chris Oswin of Alpine Angus VIC for $11,000. This young sire was selected for his excellent spread of ebvs having calving ease, growth, carcase and temperament with his ebvs being in the top 1% for growth, CWT and all indexes except of LF. Alpine Angus were so happy with Lot 4, they have changed his name to Texas Hold 'Em H126 and plan to flush their top donors to this great young sire.
