We are thrilled to introduce our fourth GAP Year student, Declan Campbell. Hailing from Inglewood in Queensland, Declan is the first Queenslander in the program and comes from a family farm that runs a commercial Angus herd.
Declan has already achieved quite a lot, including being named the 2024 Downland’s School Captain at Toowoomba QLD, earning Dux of the Year, and accepted to do a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland. He is also a skilled triathlete.
We recently encouraged Declan to apply for the Angus Australia 2025 NH Foods Cadetship, which he was excited to pursue. He was honoured to be selected as the sole recipient of this Cadetship, part of the Angus Youth Foundation.
Later this year, when things are a bit quieter, Declan will spend one week at Whyalla Feedlot, one week at Oakey Abattoir, one week at NH Foods’ head office, and will also complete a week-long leadership course at Marcus Oldham.
At Texas Angus, we believe in the importance of youth in ensuring the continued success of the beef industry. That’s why, four years ago, we launched the Texas Angus GAP Year/Mentoring program. This initiative offers young, passionate individuals a chance to gain firsthand experience with our seedstock operation. If you’re interested in applying for this unique opportunity, please reach out to us. We will begin reviewing 2026 applicants mid year.
