Bill Mayne Award

Bill Mayne lived and breathed Angus cattle. His passion for Texas Angus was unmatched, with his cattle achieving numerous Championship titles at Royal Shows across Australia. That success in the show ring led to invitations to judge at many Royal Shows nationwide, a testament to Bill’s exceptional eye for quality cattle.

Renowned as a highly respected cattleman, Bill’s vision, dedication and unwavering standards laid the foundations of what Texas Angus is today. Just as importantly, Bill was deeply committed to supporting and encouraging the next generation within the beef industry.

The Bill Mayne / Texas Angus Mentorship Award has been established to honour Bill’s legacy. Presented annually at the Angus Youth Roundup, the award is open to an intermediate (16–17 years) or senior (18–25 years) participant who may not yet have had the opportunity to experience the Angus seedstock industry.

The award covers the recipient’s registration fee for the Angus Roundup and includes a full year of mentoring with Ben and Wendy Mayne of Texas Angus. Like Bill, Ben and Wendy are passionate about investing in the future of the beef industry and are proud to offer this award each year.

Sixteen-year-old Sadie Knight from Harrogate, South Australia, was selected as the inaugural recipient from a hotly contested and exceptionally strong field of applicants. Currently in Year 11, Sadie impressed Ben & Wendy with her genuine passion, enthusiasm and clear commitment to a future in the beef industry. We look forward to working with Sadie over the year!

2027 Award will be up for grabs and enteries will be open around October this year so please look out for it on the Angus RoundUp Scholarship Awards page.
