PHOTOS OF 2026 BULLS

58th Annual Sale will be held on 30th July where 300 Bulls backed by 90 years of breeding! Texas Angus was established in Queensland in 1936 and for the next 63 years the same bloodlines continue to grow and only in 1999 did the the stud has only moved an hour south of the Queensland border after Trans Grid purchased the Mayne’s property. Never has another female line been introduced into the herd since the 21 heifers and 1 stud bull that were imported to Texas Queensland way back in 1936.

Only the very best bulls will go under the hammer from 12pm. Our bulls are born into big mobs of 200-350 cows (1000 cows in total plus 300 Embyros) that rotationally graze the native grasses of the Northern NSW Warialda district. Some are lucky enough to graze maybe a couple of improved sub tropical paddocks. The bulls are weaned onto subtropical grasses and finished for the sale on oat and rye crops. All bulls are grown out in large paddocks where they walk kilometres for feed and water. They are taught to walk early and no bulls are confined in small paddocks with self feeders nor do they have creep feeders whilst on their mothers! All bulls are from the same contemporary group – No bulls have been selected to be fed for shows or to be a feature bull of the sale. That gives you the buyer the ability to compare equally and allows us to gain the best and most accurate data for our breeding herd.

NOTHIN’ BUT BEEF DAY 9th JULY 9am – 4pm – AN INCREDIBLE LINE UP OF SPEAKERS ARE COMING TAKLING ALL ABOUT BEEF at TEXAS ANGUS plus trade sites and much more – from beef markets, financial, soil fertility, the latest and greatest on Ag tech, online marketing and all 300 bulls will be penned for viewing. 2025 RNA PADDOCK TO PALATE FEEDER CARCASE RESULTS & WE WON THE LARGEST CLASS IN THE HISTORY OF THE EVENT!

We were absolutely thrilled to win the highly coveted Class 40 – 100 Day HGP Free at the 2025 RNA Paddock to Palate Competition. This year saw the largest class in the history of the event, and with just one pen entered, to come out on top against the very best in the industry and take home the prestigious Arthur and Kath Bassingthwaighte AO Trophy was truly unforgettable. Sharing such a special night with our children Rosie, Will, and Lachie – and with Marcos, Hughie, and Tex by our side made the celebrations even more meaningful.

While the accolades are rewarding, the real value lies in the data and benchmarking against all breeds and crosses – the toughest competition in the country. For over a decade, we’ve submitted this carcase data into Angus Australia’s database, and today our EBVs reflect the true, proven performance of our cattle. Perhaps our proudest achievement at the RNA is the consistency we’ve shown over the last five years. To repeatedly record the highest and secondhighest marbling scores in the competition – and to consistently place 1st or 2nd overall – proves our program is not only delivering on qual- ity but also hitting market specifications that drive profitability across every sector of the beef industry.

For the fifth consecutive year, we’ve placed in the Top 5 for daily weight gains in the first stage of the prestigious EKKA RNA Paddock to Palate Class 40 Non HGP – that’s competing against a total of 909 steers over 5 years (see table below)! No easy feat when competing against so many high performance herds that are mostly crossbreds with the added advantage of hybrid vigour!

Ben, along with Marcos, Declan and our visiting Austrian, Felix, headed to the 2025 Paddock to Palate Field Day earlier this week. We only entered two pens in the 100-Day HGP-Free Class 40, but unfortunately, one pen was knocked out at entry with two steers just over the weight limit. That left us with one pen in the running.

Our pen placed 3rd overall for average daily weight gain with an impressive 2.233 kg/day, just 0.054kgs/day shy of first place! We also took out 2nd place for highest individual weight gain, 2.82kgs/day, missing the top spot by a whisker-only 0.05 kgs/day behind, and to once again to a crossbred. It should be noted our high performing steer was bred by a Texas sire.

** Won the Grainfed Class at Australia’s largest Beef Carcase Competition at Beef Australia 2018 – largest class of 492 or 164 pens and 330 head more than any other class of he competition!!

2024 RNA PADDOCK TO PALATE – EKKA RESULTS

Wow, what an exciting experience it was to have our own kids outshine us at last year’s RNA Paddock to Palate competition! Their Texas steers truly stole the show, surpassing not only our own performance but also that of every other exhibitor in the carcase section. It’s worth noting that the kids’ steers were sired by Texas ICEMAN and Texas ROOSTER, both MAVERICK sons, all noted for being proven carcase sires.
It’s even more impressive considering that Class 40 is the most competitive category in the competition, with a whopping 252 steers entered. We were thrilled to have two pens, including the kids’ pen, with the HIGHEST MARBLING in the entire competition! Our achievements in the RNA Paddock to Palate competition are definitely something to celebrate.

 In the Class 40 – 100 Day
Export (HGP Free) category, we secured some impressive accolades:
• 1st place in Pen of 6 Carcass Class 40
• 2nd place in Overall Pen Class 40
• 2nd place in MSA Eating Quality Class 40
• 3rd place in Overall Pen Class 40
• 3rd place in Highest Average Daily Weight Gain Class 40

This success is particularly meaningful as it marks our fourth year competing in the prestigious RNA Paddock to Palate. It’s exciting to see our steers consistently excel at this event, having placed second for 3 years and performing exceptionally well at both the RAS BEEF CHALLENGE & BEEF AUSTRALIA. This not only boosts our confidence in our breeding program but also allows us to benchmark against some of the best in the beef industry and incorporate this valuable data into our
breeding program. We’re already looking forward to the next competition and the opportunity to continue showcasing our achievements.

Sydney Royal Agricultural Show (RAS) Beef Challenge Results

We have been benching our breeding program in feeder carcase trials across the Eastern seaboard to see where we sit against not only against Angus but against all breeds and crosses. We have been entering RAS Beef Challenge since 2015, Beef Australia since 2018, EKKA RNA Paddock to Palate competition in 2020 and more recently the Beef Spectacular. Every sector of the beef industry has to be profitable and we beleive it’s our duty as a seedstock breeder we breed genetics that will deliver profits for not only the Cow Calf breeder but the backgrounder, feeder, processor and at the point of sale and we have been following this philosophy for the last 20 years!

These competitions have been excellent avenue in providing us quality information that is commercially relevant and the the success of our steers and heifers have certainly concreted our breeding program is not only getting live calves, females are rebreeding but also the progeny are growing quickly, hit market specifications that is ultimately profitable for our clients but the beef processing chain and enjoyed by consumers that return to buy more beef.
