Texas Bull Sale Results 2012

Commercial Cattleman’s Buying Bonanza at Texas

The largest and most even lineup of Texas Bulls ever presented for sale were all snapped up on the 46th Annual property sale on Thursday 16th August. It was the commercial cattleman’s sale with all 133 bulls heading to commercial operations from a very large geographical spread. Bulls were sold to northern, central and southern Queensland and the majority sold within a 250km radius of the stud. After such a history-breaking sale in 2011, this year’s sale saw buyers take the opportunity of securing 30 bulls in the $3000 – $4,500 price range, 50% of the bulls were sold for $5500 or less and were noted by many as value for money of the northern sales so far this year.

The sale averaged $6,405 topping at $14,000 three times. All three top-priced bulls were sired by Te Mania Ada and were described as “powerhouse” sires that would inject performance, phenotype, structure, muscling and temperament into any herd. Texas Ada F257, Texas Ada F383 and Texas Ada F311 were purchased by the Bonfield family, Palgrove, Stanthorpe QLD, Muriel Capel, Barraba NSW and Miamba Pastoral, Alpha QLD respectively.

Principal Ben Mayne was very happy with the result particularly with such a strong commercial presence.
“We were very proud of this year’s line-up of bulls, many onlookers commented on how even they were from the start to the end of the sale. The continual support of our repeat clients, and new clients coming on board shows their confidence in our breeding program of producing strong, heavily built, thick, structurally sound Angus bulls that come from over seven decades of breeding. These bulls are naturally heavy without the use of the feed bucket, and have a good balance of fertility, weight for age performance and quality carcase traits that will add length.” Ben said.

“The bulls this year averaged 820kgs across the board (top weight of 1006kgs) after grazing purely on oat crops. The commercial focus of the breeding operation is paying dividends for our clients particularly with our branded commercial sale held each year.” Ben reported.
